Designers Corner with Prof. Mike Smith  Part 1

Part 2. Starting to work

IB Designing

In this the second column “I” changes to “We” as we design the first prototype. Next we will move on to building that first prototype board and then writing the code to make it work. Following that we describe debugging and testing the design and improving it to the stage we could demonstrate it working in public. Finally, we look back on what went right and what went wrong and where the project goes next.

In last month’s column, “Getting a project started,” we talked about generating ideas, preparing proposals, seeking support and finding partners.  In this month’s column we talk about putting the team together, as well as finding and choosing people. The hardest part of a project is starting the real work and we discuss that phase in some detail. I describe the process I use to gather information and plan a design.
